New security measures on powders for U.S.-bound passengers

To comply with new security measures issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as from June 30th 2018, U.S.-bound passengers can only carry medicinal powders, baby formula and cremated human remains inspected by the airline to the cabin; other powder-like substances 350ml or more are prohibited in the cabin.

For mitigating the risk and threat of terrorism, TSA has issued an emergency amendment (EA) on May 31st 2018 requiring powder-like substances 350ml or more (the size of or larger than a beverage can) carried by U.S.-bound passengers must be inspected. Only medicinal powders, baby formula and cremated human remains inspected by the airline can be carried into the cabin, other powder-like substances 350ml or more are prohibited from being carried in the cabin. In addition, powder-like substances and products purchased from the duty free shop inside of a properly sealed Secure Tamper Evident Bag (STEB) may be transported in the cabin.

According to the new security measures, air carriers flying to the United States including China Airlines, Eva Air and the United Airlines are required to implement the inspection for the powder-like substances carried by the passengers at the boarding gates both in Taoyuan International Airport terminal 1 and 2. We request all U.S.-bound passengers to kindly cooperate with the measures.

To enhance the aviation security and comply with the emergency amendment issued by the United States, U.S.-bound passengers are requested to cooperate with the inspection, and powders 350ml or more should be put in the checked baggage. To avoid flight delays, passengers are advised to get into the lounge earlier after check-in. If passengers have any questions, please contact your airlines.
