Taiwan and Czech Civil Aviation Authorities signed the Arrangement on exchange of air traffic rights on 11 October 2007 in Taipei
More than two years of discussions on exchange of air traffic rights finally came to a result. Today, the civil aviation authorities of Taiwan and Czech formally signed the Arrangement on exchange of air traffic rights. The Czech delegation from aviation authority, Prague international airport and Czech airlines arrived in Taipei on 10 October upon the invitation of Taiwan side. The Taiwan delegation led by Mr. Yu Fang-Lai, the Administrative Deputy Minister of Ministry of Transportation and Communications met the Czech delegation this morning for the signing ceremony of the above mentioned Arrangement. Mr. Chang Kuo-Cheng, the Director General of Civil Aeronautics Administration of Taiwan and Mr. Jindrich Ploch, the Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Czech jointly signed the Arrangement. According to the Arrangement, the airlines of both sides may operate scheduled air services on open routes structure up to 14 frequencies per week for passenger services and without capacity limits for all cargo services, both passenger and cargo services may exercise the fifth freedom traffic rights. China Airlines has been operating all cargo services between Taipei and Prague with two frequencies per week since late 2004 based on temporary permission of both aviation authorities. The conclusion of the Arrangement has created the framework for establishing direct air link between Taiwan and Czech and provide airlines more operation room and business opportunity. It may be foreseen that the Arrangement will promote substantial cooperation between airlines, airports, cargo and travel agencies, and consequently enhance the investment and trade activities as well as interchange of culture and tourism between both sides.
